The film was released in the United States on August 4, 2023, with some complimenting the action sequences and the cast's performances and others criticising the predictable plot and lack of creativity. The picture, on the other hand, was a commercial triumph, grossing over $500 million worldwide.
Here's a quick synopsis of the plot:

Jonas Taylor is now a professor at a marine biology institute, five years after the events of the first film. A Chinese government official asks him to assist in the rescue of a group of scientists imprisoned in a research facility at the Mariana Trench.
The researchers have been researching a genus of prehistoric sharks known as "Megaladon." The sharks are substantially larger and more ferocious than the Megalodons that Jonas faced in the first film.
Jonas and his team must work against the clock to save the scientists before the Megalodons do. Along the way, they must deal with mercenaries who are attempting to steal the scientists' research.
Finally, Jonas and his team are successful in saving the scientists and destroying the Megalodons. They also discover that there are other Megalodons out there, and that they are a much bigger threat than anyone could have predicted.

The Meg 2: The Trench is an entertaining and action-packed sequel that lives up to the first film's promise. The movie is well-made, with some stunning special effects. The cast's performances are equally excellent, with Jason Statham leading the way. The picture, however, suffers from a predictable premise and a lack of inventiveness. Overall, The Meg 2: The Trench is a competent sequel worth seeing for its action sequences and acting, but it is not without flaws.
